Assistant Professor of Sociology
Dr. Pederson is a political sociologist whose academic specialty is welfare and the sociology of aging, with a particular focus on public attitudes toward Social Security, other public pension programs and unemployment benefits. She studies how social policies—both in the United States and abroad—are created, how they change and how the public perceives them.
She is a graduate of Berea College and holds a Ph.D. from Florida State University.

She has published articles in the International Journal of Social Science Studies and International Journal of Social Welfare. Her doctoral dissertation (2013) was “Privatization and Welfare State Attitudes in a Cross-national Context.”
